Night of Dreams: Vlisco Women Month 2014

To celebrate the women's month, Vlisco had series of events. One of which was the Festive Award Night held on Mothering Sunday, 30th March, 2014 at the Marquee, Federal Palace Hotel. It was tagged the Night of Dreams Vlisco Women's Month Award.

The event started with a cocktail as the ladies strutted the runway in their beautiful attires mostly made of the Vlisco fabric. The host for the night was Mariam Anazodo, a presenter with NTA. It was indeed a night to celebrate women. As Waje said, women hardly get the opportunity to go to parties and clubs. Thus nights like this, women need to really have fun.

The terrakulture troupe got everyone in the celebration mood with their performance. The recurrent  phrase was, 'I am a woman phenomenally; phenomenal woman, that's me!

Each of the Nigerian nominees for the Vlisco Woman of the Year Award was given an award. The nominees were, Esther Agbarakwe, Olamide Orekunrin and Adesuwa Onyenokwe. Esther excels in the field of climate change, Dr. Olamide is the flying doctor and Adesuwa excels as a media personality.

One of the side attractions of the night was having the nominees strut the runway in the outfits of different designers who showcased their stuffs that night. Dr. Olamide was styled by House of Jasmine, Adesuwa by Fifi O and Esther by TFK designs. Well I must commend Adesuwa for her graceful catwalk on the runway. At 50 with 6 children, she sure has swag.

Jodie's performance was good that the crowd wanted her to sing her most popular track, kuchikuchi. She did oblige the crowd whilst the women whose outfits were made with the Vlisco fabric strutted the runway. The next amazing performance for the night was by Waje. Yeah, I say amazing because she did get all the ladies dancing. She even took off her shoes to perform. It was indeed the best performance that night.

Other highlights of the event include the presentation to the 3 finalist for the vlisco women fund given to tailors and designers to assist them. The Nigerian finalist were Sophie Alozie, Chioma Igbokwe and Morokunbi Idowu. Then the award for the best female guests to strut the runway in Vlisco fabrics.

Just in case you didn't know, the Vlisco Woman of the Year 2013 was Eugenia Abu. She was nominated alongside Joke Silva, Chimamanda and Abike Dabiri. Eugenia in her speech did reiterate that women can be brilliant and yet fashionable.

The peak of the night was announcing the winner of the Vlisco Woman of the Year 2014. The award went to Adesuwa Onyenokwe.

Vlisco did well to give their guest a good treat especially the women who all got a stick of a rose flower and their makeup touched up by BMpro. I had my brows done by them. Baileys was there and lots of small chops for the cocktail.

We do look forward to the next year but for now, let's watch out for Adesuwa's activities as she reigns as Vlisco's Woman of the Year 2014.

Thanks to Jude Nwagwu for sending me the information I used in compiling this report for my blog fam. I couldn't let you guys miss out of the fun I had yesterday.

Appreciation Message- My Brthday.

For those of you who didn't know, yesterday the 26th was my birthday. I feel old but I am young, really young*lol*. May be not so young. I am still in my early 20s so, yeah, I am still young but getting older!

I had no plans for my birthday. I just thought it was going to be like any other working day but, I secretly hoped that someone would spice the day up for me. And yeah, all of my friends and family plus colleagues did spice the day up.

My friend, Philomena, made me prettier as she did the make up just to give me a different look from my everyday look. Then, the big one came from my beau who sent a cake to my office.
I got to the office and met the delivery guy waiting for me to arrive (Perfect timing!). The cake served the perfect purpose as it  got the office in the celebration mood. Thanks to my MD for allowing it to happen and the entire Gteam was awesome.

For all the gifts, phone calls, text messages, pings and the messages on facebook, twitter and instagram, I am indeed grateful. You all touched my heart with so much love and my joy has no bound. My prayer is that God will continue to give us reasons to celebrate together all the time.

I would have done a roll call but I will not want to leave anyone out. I am sure you understand. Thank you guys. Thank you so very much. You all rock!
Note that this is not the post for the week. Expect that tomorrow *wink*.

I am not Bossy; I am the Boss!

Growing up, I had the privilege of occupying so many leadership positions. In carrying out my responsibilities, a number of people (women inclusive)  said that I was bossy but at the end of the day, when they needed someone to make things work, I was the one to turn to.

Is this Exploitation: A case Study of the Immigration Recruitment Exercise

I am wondering what we are all thinking when we decide to attend certain job examinations and interviews. Well, I guess we all go with the aim of trying and hoping that something positive comes out of it. I am also guilty of attending some not so good job interviews as well; one I wrote for a highly reputable bank in this country and never got a response and another that I was made to stay till about 9pm at the exam venue which was a long distance away from home. So, the first was properly organized but no feedback (and that was the same for all those that I knew that wrote that exam) and the other lacked proper time management. Something that is quite common in this part of the world- no respect for time.
