The Highlights Of The Pink Ball

On Saturday, the 18^th of October 2014, The Dorchester was full of life as the guests for the 2014 Genevieve Pink Ball arrived in style. The event shook the town that from far off, it was so easy to get anyone to direct you to the venue. I had a really interesting time that I think it is only fair that I share those moments with you.

Earlier in the day, I had stopped by the venue to see what could be done in readiness for the event and the entire hall was lit with beautiful decoration. The chairs and tables depicted the theme of the ball- shades of pink. The stage was like a swirling cake with a huge ribbon on it that stood out from the rest of the decoration. That must have been a lot of job to get that up. Kudos to the decorators.

The ushers had their makeup done by Doranne beauty and their dresses by Isi Atagamen. They looked angelic in their shade of pink awaiting the arrival of the guests to make them welcome. 

Camay had sent some of their models as well who gave out roses to the guests from Camay.  

Flowers do make ladies feel special which was the entire concept behind the giving of flowers. 

Camay is a new brand of P and G that only recently got launched and came on board to sponsor the Pink ball. They do share one major thing in common though- the colour pink.

Getting all the guests to seat at designated tables was quite an uphill task

but we pulled through and the event began with so much cheerfulness from the guests.

Some of the major highlights was the speech from the MD and CEO of The Genevieve Magazine who is also the founder of the Pink ball Foundation, Mrs. Betty Irabor.

I met my aunties whom I had worked closely with in Abeokuta and they were as excited as I was to have seen them. Looking ever radiant and pretty as always.

Down to the runway..... The guests had been promised that some celebrities would be strutting the runway and the organisers kept true to their promise.

Though we noticed the absence of a few of the celebrities who ought to have been there, we enjoyed the ‘effize’ which the celebrities brought with them as they dazzled the runway in outfits by Mai Atafo and Lanre Da Silva.

These outfits were specially made for the event. That is to say, they have never been worn by any other than the celebrities just for the ball. Rumour has it that the outfits might be auctioned. Watch out keenly if you are interested in picking any for your self.

Popular vote says that Fade was the best model on the runway in terms of her carriage

and Osas was the prettiest with her figure. 

Also, the crowd loved the humour that came with the arrival of Julius Agwu on the stage. I don’t know how to best describe it. I guess you have to wait for another Pink Ball and hope that he is on the celebrity models’ list, to see him first hand.

We loved Rita Dominic’s magnificient bun. 

Looks like that is her new signature as she had something similar at the AMVCA. I was loving all the swag that OC Ukeje, Lynxx, Chris Attoh and DJ Exclusive brought onto the runway.

Serious talk which is the main reason for the night was when Franca took the stage to tell her story. 

Franca as she prefers to be called is a cancer survivor and if you hear her story, you will be moved to tears. I hope to be able to feature her story sometime on the blog.

When Franca was done and it seemd like people were getting sober, the big masquerade (like my Igbo people will say), arrived in the person of Flavour.

The crowd had  been expecting him all night that when he showed up, I doubt if anyone sat on their seats. 

If they did, then I am pretty certain they rocked their chairs so hard dancing to the beats from Flavour. He performed with a live band.

That is an artist who knows his onions. Contrary to the original arrangement, he gave us almost 45 minutes of his time and I say a big thank you to him for being so magnanimous.

You should have seen me dancing. That was about the only time I had fun! After which my colleague and I ambushed him to get a quick shot before he stepped out again. He must be a busy man!

The show came to an end with DJ exclusive taking the guests into the night.

It was a fun night for all and we look forward to the next pink ball.

There was  cocktail from the start 

after which the guests had some sumptuous meal, cakes, drinks and plenty of champagne. I didn’t get to take any as I was quite busy but I am glad the guests were taken care of. 

 

I also missed the opportunity to take a picture with one woman that I admire a lot, Mo Abudu. 

I hope I get another opportunity not just to take a picture but maybe, doing something more life changing and ground breaking with her.
